Where your data goes
There are four places data can end up, and it helps to keep them apart. Most of what Yoink handles never leaves the first one.
- settings.json
- history.json · 250
- your downloads
- On your computer. Things the extension and app process locally. We never receive them.
- Sites you choose. When you ask Yoink to fetch something, it contacts that site for you.
- Our service providers. Only for things you send us, like an email.
- Løwe Interactive. Only what you deliberately send us.
Send to Yoink, the browser extension
The extension is a small bridge between your browser and Yoink. It asks for four permissions: activeTab, contextMenus, notifications and alarms, plus access to one address on your own computer, 127.0.0.1:32193.
- Reads the current tab’s URL and title when you open its popup.
- Reads the page, link, image, video or audio URL you pick when you choose Send to Yoink.
- Uses the title locally to describe the page. The title is never sent anywhere.
- Sends only the selected URL to Yoink at
127.0.0.1:32193. - Now and then checks that address to see if Yoink is running, without any page data.
- Store URLs, titles or browsing history.
- Read your browser history, cookies, passwords, sign-ins, messages, location or payment details.
- Run analytics, telemetry, ads, tracking or remotely loaded code.
- Send anything to Løwe Interactive or any Løwe server.
Yoink, the desktop app
Yoink has no account and no analytics, telemetry, ads or profiling. Here is everything it keeps and every place it connects to.
- Settings in
settings.json. - History in
history.json: the newest 250 downloads, with details like source URL, title, creator, site, quality, clip range, status, file path and any errors. - Your downloads, in the folder you chose, until you delete them.
- Preview links, required headers and download grants, in memory only, for up to one hour.
- The site you chose, to inspect, preview or download what you asked for.
- GitHub, for Yoink and yt-dlp updates.
- Your email app, if you click to contact support, and your browser, if you open the Reddit community. Both only when you click.
What Løwe Interactive can receive
The app and extension send us nothing. We only get personal data through channels you choose to use:
- Support email. Your address, the email headers, your message and any attachments.
- Privacy or legal requests you send us.
- Our website. Covered in the Løwe Interactive privacy policy.
- Store and platform statistics. Aggregate numbers, such as download counts, that distribution platforms like GitHub and the Chrome Web Store show developers. These do not identify you to us.
Every activity, in detail

You never have to give us anything. Yoink works without contacting us. If you don’t give the extension a page or link, it has nothing to send, and if you don’t email us, we can’t reply.

How long, and how to delete it
Yoink doesn’t have a clear-history button yet. To remove its settings and history, close Yoink and delete its app data folder:
%APPDATA%\Yoink~/Library/Application Support/YoinkYour downloads stay where you saved them until you delete them yourself.
How it is protected
- Data is kept locally instead of on our servers.
- The extension asks for the fewest permissions it can work with.
- The extension talks to Yoink only over a loopback address that never leaves your computer.
- Pages are inspected in isolated sessions whose storage is deleted afterwards.
- Connections to other sites use secure transport wherever the site supports it.
- Access to support email is restricted to the people who need it.
No software is perfectly secure, and we won’t pretend otherwise. If you find a vulnerability, please tell us at support@loweinteractive.com.
